On light…

I’m always facinated how when you find a gem of truth, like the poem "Shine" in the previous post, you will spend the next days continually bumping into other ideas or truths that work with the first. Here’s one of my bumps:

"When the rivers and air are polluted, when families and nations are at war, when homeless wanderers fill the highways, these are traditional signs of a dark age. Another is that people become poisoned by self doubt and become cowards. Practicing loving kindness towards ourselves seems as good a way as any to start illuminating the darkness of difficult times" (119-120). From Comfortable with Uncertainty by Pema Chodron

And, as Williamson reminds us:

As we let our own light shine,
We give other people permission to do the same.
