Imagine

Imagine

In my fiction writing class tonight, we were told to write a poetic piece using titles of songs, political or ad slogans in a short period of time–so no over analyzing it. It was a great deal of fun to do and this is what I came up with (it’s pretty obvious that I had the Instant Karma CD in mind):

Imagine

St. Jimmy walked 500 Miles

to ask you to

Give Peace a Chance

What if

you walked a Boulevard of Broken Dreams

But walked it

Full of Grace?

Nobody Told Me that

isolation grew only Lemon Trees;

Instead

Real Love grows

Instant Karma–

We live on Borrowed Time, so

Give Peace a Chance!

(I’m having trouble getting it to maintain my tabbing so for now it’ll stay lined up to the left)

*Songs: Imagine (John Lennon), St. Jimmy (Green Day), 500 Miles (The Proclaimers), Give Peace a Chance (John Lennon), Blvd of Broken Dreams (Green Day), Full of Grace (Sarah McLachlan), Nobody Told Me (John Lennon), Lemon Tree (Fool’s Garden), Real Love (Beatles), Instant Karma (John Lennon), Borrowed Time (John Lennon)

*Player: Lovely iPod stickers courtesy of iStyles, cool portable speaker courtesy of JBL, my mom and husband for my birthday.

  1. That’s a neat idea for writing a poem. Yours turned out pretty good. My mind would probably freeze up and forget every song I know if I tried that…lol.

  2. I am very impressed by your prose! I also like the theme!

  3. Very nice, indeed, Kelly!

It reminds me of the judge who composed an entire sentencing memorandum using Beatles lyrics: http://sungame.wordpress.com/2007/06/08/he-should-have-known-better/
