Seriously cool.
In a tie with Scrivener for my favorite MacBook feature/program is Bookpedia. I can use the built in webcam called iSight and SCAN IN THE UPC CODES OF ALL MY BOOKS! Okay, I know, that was obnoxious but really, it is cool. I hold it up to the scanner, it scans it, searches Amazon and up pops a picture, details, description, etc. and I hit “add”–into my catalog it goes. The program works a lot like iTunes and even has an book cover view you can flip through that is very neat. Functionally you can set up wishlists, groups, keep track of books borrowed and who has them, the book’s information page as a “if you like this than you may like this” section. I’m still in the process of scanning in, so I haven’t played with all the features–but once I’m done I’ll be able to put a booklist online in my reading section.
Here is a screenshot so far, I have scanned in 214 books, 4 are out borrowed (that I know about), and a total of 81,489 pages in my library. I’ve got quite a few shelves to go. My daughter is chomping at the bit to get her hands on the computer to put her DVD collection into DVDpedia (she feels about her DVDs the way I feel about my books–well, she also feels the same way about her books but I’m covering that end).
